Google I/O 2013: Google TV to get Android 4.2.2 update!

Google I/O has been a massive event and we'll catch you up with all the details over the coming day and today it's been confirmed that Google TV will be updated to Android 4.2.2. This is a huge update for the TV platform because at the moment it's running Android 3 Honeycomb, so this is a serious update which is planned!

This will bring smartphones, tablets and TV all to the same version of Android and aside from the bump in the version of Android Google have also promised to keep the Chrome browser up to date on the platform too! That means that Chrome for Google TV will follow the same update pattern as other devices and get a new version of the browser every 6 weeks!

At the moment there's no exact word on when we can expect these updates to land, instead Google have said that they're working very closely with manufacturers in order to release an update for the platform in a timely fashion and on paper the updates could roll out within weeks of Google releasing the key components! In reality though things could take a bit longer because some of the Google TV boxes are skinned by OEMs which will delay the process!

Hopefully this sort of continued support will see people bring more apps to the Google TV which is something which is great for the platform and we can't wait to see if people take things to the next level!
