T-Mobile USA's UnCarrier announcement: Everything you need to know!

Wow, T-Mobile's new CEO, John Legere, is a breath of fresh air isn't he?! We'll have full details of T-Mobile's Un-Carrier event a bit later, but let's start with John's takes on the American carriers and the way things work at the moment!

Legere said that two-year contracts were, "the biggest crock of shit in my life. Do you have any idea how much you're paying?" before proceeding to explain how carriers are only "really nice to you... once every 23 months." There were other golden tidbits like, "if you come to T-Mobile, you've signed your last contract," it's obviously slightly hyperbolic, but his remark which read, "If we suck this month, drop us. Go somewhere else," should resonate with consumers and this sort of slight arrogance does seem quite appealing!

So aside from the unique CEO what else does T-Mobile have on offer? Head into the home-made Q&A below for more details!

Where is 4G going to be available?
Initially the service will be live in Baltimore, Houston, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Phoenix, San Jose, and Washington D.C! Naturally more are on the way!

How do the contracts work?
Well instead of paying up front for the phone and being locked into a 24 month contract which you can't change until the 730th day. That way T-Mobile are doing it is by charging you a little bit up front for the phone and then you get your 24 month contract which will pay off the cost of the phone by the end of it. But, and this is a big but, you can cancel your contract at any time, with the only condition being you pay off the rest of the cost of the phone. So in reality there's no contract there, you're just buying the phone and the service!

How much does unlimited everything cost?
The simple answer is $70, but you have to add the monthly cost of your phone onto that as well. Naturally, there's other small internet allowances available too!

What devices will be on offer?
T-Mobile will have a relatively solid line-up here. There will be the BlackBerry Z10, the normal slew of Android devices which will include the Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note II and the HTC One. The S4 will be available in Q2 this year and the HTC One will land later this spring. Obviously the Galaxy Note II is already available and it will soon get an update for existing customers to turn on that LTE!

There will also be a mobile hotspot called the Sonic 2.0 on offer. It'll cost you $29.99 up front with 24 monthly payments of $5 per month.

Interestingly you'll have to pay a bit up front for some of the phone, for example a Blackberry Z10 will cost $99.99 upfront, as will the Galaxy S4 and the HTC One, this is a sort of down payment. In the case of the Z10 there's $20 extra over the next 24 months to pay for the rest of the phone. The bigger story here though is that you can have any of the iPhone 5, 4S or 4 on T-Mobile from April 12th!

All of these devices will be locked to T-Mobile until the device is officially yours and you have paid for the phone! Check out the video below for more information!

CES 2013: T-Mobile announce MLB partnership, 4G plans, '4G connect' and HD voice! Plus Legere's take on their rivals!

T-Mobile took centre stage at CES today and they had four main points which they wanted to make from their pitch today. The first was a partnership with Major League Baseball (MLB), they also confirmed that an Unlimited Nationwide 4G plan is on the way without a fixed term(!), as is HD voice and a bunch of 4G 'things'.

First up is T-Mobile's deal with the MLB. This agreement will make T-Mobile the "Official Wireless Sponsor of the Major League Baseball association". This deal will last for a few years and will involve the MLB Advanced Media company working with T-Mo to provide the On-Field Communication System, which will connect via T-Mobile's new 4G network, so that'll give you a little heads up as to which areas will be getting 4G first! This system will provide communication from managers to the dugouts, from dugouts to bullpens and a few other important connections! This will be rolled out during the next year!

Secondly, we've heard rumblings of an unlimited 4G plan from T-Mobile for a while. But, now we finally have a confirmation that this will be a non-contract option, so there won't be a 24 month commitment and for $70 a month you will be getting yourself unlimited data, voice calls and texts, and the first 5GBs of your data usage will be at 4G speeds, we're not currently sure what'll happen after that, but we expect you'll get throttled! You can see the full details from T-Mobile's mouth here! If you're worried you won't be able to realise a 4G connection in your area then T-Mobile has pledged to cover 100 million people by the middle of this year and they hope to reach 200 million before the year is out!

Other then that tariff T-Mobile has another trick for their 4G network and it involves your laptop and tablet. 4G Connect from T-Mobile will offer instantly-available connectivity to the T-Mo's 4G network assuming you have specific Dell and HP laptop models which have Qualcomm built signal receivers in. Depending on which computer you have you can get a complementary data allowance of up to 200MB free every month!

T-Mobile is also keen to offer the residents of the US something which they've been rolling out over in Europe as well and that's HD Voice. T-Mobile said some of you will notice an increase in call quality as the company is rolling out this feature to the whole of their network, something which will give you a “dramatic improvement” in quality, T-Mobile isn't just saying that either, you genuinely can tell the difference! Unfortunately this will only be an option for those of you rocking 4G smartphones though!

John Legere.
One thing which wasn't mentioned during their keynote was the arrival of iPhones on the network. But, thankfully John Legere, although declining to offer many details, did say that T-Mobile USA would be getting the iPhone sooner rather than later in an interview with Reuters. He pegged the time frame at "three to four months as opposed to six to nine months," which is great news!

The whole thing was beautifully rounded off afterwards when, Legere started criticising his rivals. He said Verizon's shared data plans were a thing of the past, his exact words were, "a 10GB, 5-device shared data plan, when Joe Schmoe Junior starts to watch porn on his phone, isn't going to work," a valid point, very well made. He then mocked Sprint's WiMax to LTE switch and basically their 4G woes, before calling AT&T's network in New York 'crap'. This is definitely one way to get people's attention focused on T-Mobile and it seems fitting to round this one out the way Engadget start there posts: CEO-No he didn't!

A 32GB version of the Nexus 7 looks increasingly likely!

Android Central

Google's Nexus 7 is one of the most popular tablets going at the moment; it offers the best of great specs and bargain price point! One of the only issues reviewers have found with the tablet has been the lack of expandable storage and the very limiting confines of 8 or 16GB's of storage.

We've got a PadFone 2 on the way!!!!!

Asus' original PadFone was one of the stand out devices from last year. Literally no one bought one but everyone thought it was a great idea! So excuse us for being quite excited about a souped-up successor!

While we don't have any details about the device yet we've seen a lot of reported benchmark details about the phone. If these benchmarks turn out to be accurate then we'll be seeing a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, just like LG's upcoming Optimus G, topped with 2GB of RAM and Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Mark the date, October 16th, in your diaries because we're about to see another take on the future of phones!
