SamMobile tease the Android 4.2.2 update for the Galaxy S3!

Samsung's Galaxy S3 is still one heck of a good phone. The device is our daily driver here at TTF and Samsung are always keen to keep their devices as up to date with software as possible. That's why we have this new firmware from the guys over at SamMobile.

The software is Android 4.2.2 and there's some other functions which the Galaxy S4 brought to the world planted in this new test firmware too! You can see the new features being shown off in the video embedded below this post.

We can tell you that the test firmware has new features such as Android 4.2.2, a new lockscreen with updated ripple effects, driving and daydream modes, actionable notifications and other enhancements to the notification centre. Other things such as the revamped Settings UI and voice controls of some parts of the UI, a new S Voice, are all supposedly in the works too!

Check out the video below to see what's being shown off here and then let us know if you're excited for this update to land on your device in the comments below!

20/12/2012: $99 Nexus 7 rumours return with a cheap Iconia tablet leak! Flexible displays at CES, the UK's 4G bidders, tonnes of app news and much more!

Rumours of a $99 Nexus resurface as Acer's Iconia B1 leaks as a pre-release challenger!

First things first rumours of a $99 Nexus 7 are nothing new, we hear about them every few weeks, but could it really happen? We have to turn our sites to the infamous website Digitimes for the latest round of rumours. The thing with Digitimes is that they post so many rumours that every now and then one of them comes to bare and so they do get it right some of the time.

This time they think that Google and Asus will be able to work together to deliver a $99 (£60) Google Nexus 7 tablet. If the rumours are right this time it’ll be out sometime in the spring of next year. DigiTimes' sources believe the tablet could cost as little as $99, however their sources expect that a price of around $129-149 (£79-91) is considerably more likely.

At this point we have no idea of the potential potency of a device with this sort of price tag. It would have to be in the same league as the current Nexus 7 with it's quad-core processor and solid IPS display makng the tablet so popular because of the power that came at such an affordable price point. The Nexus 7's horsepower has proved hard to match, even for Amazon, with their Kindle Fire line which is also 'sold at cost'.

One thing which seemingly adds some smoke to this fire is that Acer has had it's Iconia B1 leaked today. You may recall that Acer release the Iconia A110 as a similarly priced competitor to Google's Nexus 7, it added the SD Card many people craved, but at the cost of a good screen and a couple of other features.

This makes news of the Iconia B1, pictured right, is all the more interesting because this is a decidedly budget device. There's a 1.2Ghz dual-core Mediatek SOC, 512MB of RAM, 8GB of storage, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, and a microSD card slot! The software version is Android 4.1.2 and this tablet will have to come in at less than the Iconia A110. One thing to say about the tablet is that blue streak around the side does give it an air of quality in the press photos, but the reality might be slightly different when you get hold of a device in person. Unless Acer is really engaging in a race to the bottom with Google, it would seem silly to offer a device at a lower price point than the A110.

Either way if Google could squeeze out a £99 or $99 tablet would you buy it just to see what it was like anyway? And do Acer need to offer their B1 tablet in the first place or is the A110 good enough for the budget range already? Either way if you decide you don't like either of these rumoured tablets you can always give them to the kids!

  • The popular mobile messaging service WhatsApp is currently available for free to iPhone users, instead of it's normal $0.99 retail price. We expect this is because there are a lot of you out there opening up your new iPhone's this Christmas and WhatsApp would rather you used their service instead of iMessage or Samsung's ChatOn! We're not sure this offer will last for ever so it's worth a download now even if you don't intend to use it every day!

The list includes the normal candidates; EE, Hutchison Whampoa (the network Three to you and me), Telefonica (O2) and Vodafone, as well as BT, MLL Telecom (a telecom network supplier) and PCCW (who are a major Hong Kong telecoms conglomerate). We'll have to see how the auction goes and if we learn any more about MLL and PCCW we'll let you know what their interests in the spectrum are.

And finally, Samsung has said that they will be exhibiting their 5.5" flexible display at CES in January next year! This screen is exactly the same as the amoled offering in the firms Galaxy Note 2, with the same 720p resolutiom, except this one is flexible! This means we could be seeing this display in smartphones very soon, something which will hopefully add to durability and the screens resistance to accidental drops and bumps! Hopefully a 1080p version isn't too far behind!

A 32GB version of the Nexus 7 looks increasingly likely!

Android Central

Google's Nexus 7 is one of the most popular tablets going at the moment; it offers the best of great specs and bargain price point! One of the only issues reviewers have found with the tablet has been the lack of expandable storage and the very limiting confines of 8 or 16GB's of storage.

OEM's have barely opened the Jelly Bean packet!

Android; the world's most popular smartphone operating system and quite probably the world's most frustrating when it comes to updates. They seem to take absolutely forever to arrive and when they do manufacturers have issues ironing out the bugs.

At the moment the news isn't so good; yes there are over 1.3million daily Android activations, but not all of them ship with an up to date OS. Instead it seems like it's only Nexus devices that're rocking Jelly Bean at the moment with slightly more than 1/100 devices are running Jelly Bean.

It's worth remembering that most devices are still on Gingerbread and most of these probably will stay there until their owners upgrade. It's a frustrating situation all round but hopefully we'll see a lot more users rocking Jelly bean when Samsung gets round to updating the Galaxy S2 and S3!

Angry Birds sequel 'Bad Piggies' launching at the end of September!

How do you follow up one of the world's most successful gaming franchises? With a reversal of the original of course! That's exactly what Rovio has planned for their next instalment of birds vs pigs!

For this game the Angry Birds won’t be as present, and we've kept the pigs who’ve unfortunately been mistreated for the past few years and are seeking revenge! For those of you who love Angry Birds then mark Bad Piggies in your diary for September 27th when it'll hit Android and iOS.

Aside from this we don't know much about this new game, all we know is that there won't be 'any birds or slingshots in sight'.

In other news:

  • What better way to prepare for the launch of the iPhone 5, if your name is Samsung, than with the threat of with 434 LTE patents heading Apple's way?
  • Samsung's Galaxy S3 became the current top selling phone in the USA just knocking off the iPhone 4S ahead of Apple's refresh.
  • Just to ensure they're not missing from the September fun, HTC has said today that they will be holding an even on September 19th!!!
  • Apple has finally confirmed that their iPhone date is September 12th! Keep it locked for all the info!
  • Nokia have today come out on Twitter and rebuked claims that their 8MP PureView camera isn't good enough! We'll have to see if their theory matches practice.

Lenovo from IFA 2012!

Lenovo released a couple of tablets from their A series the over day which we have previously covered, but there's one that we haven't mentioned that really stands out!

That device is elegantly named the Ideapad S2110 The tablet itself has a 10.1-inch IPS LCD display with 1280 x 800 pixel resolution and a nice 420nit brightness and it's got a great little attachable keyboard dock for all your work. You’ll have 10-finger touchscreen abilities here too because the show is run by the powerful Qualcomm 8060A/8260A 1.5GHz dual-core processor (aka a dual-core Snapdragon S4).

The tablet on it's own is rated for 10 hours of battery life and with the keyboard dock you’ll have 20 hours of battery life! Without the dock the whole thing weights in at just 580g so it's quite heavy but not unbearably so. If you're one of them people that likes good shooters on your tablet then this one will just about pass; there's a 5 megapixel camera with Auto Focus and single LED flash, the front houses a 1.3 megapixel camera for video chat. Inside you’ve got 1GB of RAM as well as Bluetooth 4.0, built-in FM Radio, and this thing is Wi-fi only, sorry!

ZTE Grand X IN gets released!

ZTE has another addition to their Android line-up today and this one is the world's first Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich smartphone with an Intel inside.

The phone has an Atom X2460 running the show and the back casing is quite unique because it's hatched and surprisingly interesting. On the front there's a 4.3-inch 960 x 540 display and a 0.3MP camera and round back you've got a powerful 8 megapixel camera with single LED flash.

Depending on your point of view you'll either be smitten with ZTE’s custom user interface we will just say it's a very bubbly affair with a few custom widgets thrown in for good measure. By way of redemption though there is 4G HSPA+ connection with up to 21Mpbs and has Intel's 'Hyper-Threading Technology' too. With this technology and the Intel XMM 6260 Platform you’ll be working with ultra-fast web browsing and an all-around super speedy user experience chipzilla promises.

To keep you going through the day you've got a 1650mAh battery and the rest of the internals include 1GB of RAM with either 4 or 16GB of ROM. You’ll also have the ability to expand your memory by 32GB through the microSD card slot. The sensor set includes; GPS, Bluetooth 2.1 + A2DP, Dolby sound, RM Radio, Accelerator, Gyroscope, Compass, Proximity senros, and Light sensor as well.

HTC Desire X.

HTC has come up with a new refresh of the classic HTC Desire, but this phone is quite a strange beast because it's a high-quality mid-range phone and it's pretty much in a range of it's own because of the mismatch of the internals.

This phone has a solid 4-inch 480 x 800 pixel super LCD display and an ultra powerful 1Ghz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor and the software is a Sense 4.0 take on Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich although we haven't heard if it'll be updated to Jelly Bean, but we expect it will.

The storage, as will all Desire devices, leaves something to be 'desired', in this case there's 4GB of internal storage and 768 MB of RAM. In an attempt to appease you HTC will throw in 25GB of cloud storage free with Dropbox for two years. But at least there's a microSD card slot for up to 32GB of extra storage. As always you can get some Beats Audio out of that 3.5mm headphone jack.

You audiophiles will also appreciate the Bluetooth 4.0 stereo audio quality – APT-X CODEC for BT A2DP is also included. You’ve also got the option for HD voice calls, if your network offers it and an FM radio. Your sensors include a proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, and G-sensor. The battery in this device is another1650 mAh unit that HTC claims will provide 10 hours of talk time in 3G or 20 hours in 2G, with 34 days of standby if you’re using 3G or 31 days using 2G – we're not sure who HTC employed to do their maths!!!

The camera is also noteworthy; it's a 5MP BSI lense with HTC ImageChip, the same one that you might have in your HTC One series device. The camera also uses a F2.0 aperture, wide angle 28 mm lens, and an LED flash with SmartFlash. SmartFlash functionality is quite useful as it allows five level of flash that are automatically set by your camera detecting distance to the objects at hand.

All in all it's a nice mid-range device but we're not sure this is going to drastically change HTC's fortunes.

In other news:

  • In case you needed any more confirmation Amazon are soon to announce a Kindle Fire successor then the original device has now been listed as 'sold out' on Amazon's website. Hold tight refresh incoming!
  • Amazon's App Store is now available in Europe!!!
And finally, Sony's new Xperia T and V have both benchmarked higher than Samsung's Galaxy S3, so they are mighty good devices! Some of the benchmark results have been included below!

Samsung Galaxy S3 review.

This may be a couple of months after the release of Samsung's new flagship the Galaxy S3 but now all the dust has settled, new firmware releases have ensured stability and we should really check to see if the Galaxy S3 is still regarded as the best device on the market. After 3 weeks of continuous use does the initial gloss of a new handset disappear to reveal a few niggling issues or is the Galaxy S3 really the best Android handset around at the moment?

Photobucket
The S2 and S3 together!
Let us begin with a brief comparison; before the Galaxy S3 our daily driver was, the equally popular predecessor, the Galaxy S2. Both phones run Android 4.0 ICS and both are power houses, but a good question to consider as we go through the review is if the S3 really is a worthy upgrade to the S2?

In a word the answer is a resounding yes! The S3 is faster, sleeker and better in almost every respect! Without physically having the devices side by side you'll be hard pressed to notice the differences, but when they're together the differences are like night and day!

"Is the S3 a worthy upgrade to the S2?    In a word the answer is a resounding yes!"

  Display.
The first change you'll noticed is the difference in size, the S3's screen is just absolutely huge. The extra half an inch difference from the 4.3" to 4.8" is a huge difference and Samsung has done remarkably well to keep the footprint of the Galaxy S3 manageable, despite it being on the large side!

But, aside from physical size differences the next advancement you'll notice will be the clarity of the screen. With the Galaxy S2, Samsung used a 480x800 pixel display with Super Amoled Plus technology, whereas the S3 has a 1280x720p Super Amoled display (ie. no Plus). The extra pixels make a world of difference; text on web pages becomes readable even when the page is fully zoomed out, something as simple as this would have required zooming on the S2 to make the text readable. Things like pictures taken on the phones cameras look totally different too, the S3's screen does the pictures justice, demonstrating the quality of the sensor both phones share!

Photobucket   Unfortunately, there is one area that the older S2 manages to out shine the S3 and that is outdoor visibility. The Super Amoled Plus display on the S2 appears much brighter outdoors whereas the S3 suffers and is almost invisible in full sunlight. This is quite strange because inside the S3 and S2 appear almost perfectly matched in the brightness stakes, so it's an unfortunate issue, but something you'll quickly get used to again!

One other small thing you'll probably notice is that the auto-brightness setting on the S3 will seem slightly darker than you would expect. But, after a few days you'll get used to it, but the screen isn't quite up to the levels of the LCD on the HTC One X, but as long as the pair aren't side by side, you won't really tell. As you can see from the picture to the left the S3's screen does appear brighter in indoor conditions!

Despite this minor downer the S3's display is truly fantastic, when my mother was first shown the phone (she didn't know I'd bought it) and she asked if I had a dummy phone, that is a testament to how good it is and sometimes it really doesn't look real, you have to interact with it just to make sure!

Performance; software and hardware made for each other!
When the Galaxy S3 launched Samsung provided us with everything we wanted; quad-core, 720p screen, 1GB of RAM and lots of Memory options. Thankfully this level of hardware is what phones and tablets deserve, everything absolutely flies. You would think that the Galaxy S2 has great performance until it is compared side by side with the Galaxy S3.

The S3 is buttery smooth through every aspect of the user interface. All programmes load next to instantly and there are no complaints at all!

   Battery.
You would expect with this demanding processor and huge screen that the battery would be tormented like never before. But, somehow Samsung has managed to squeeze every last drop out of the 2100 MaH battery, which incidentally is NFC enabled and replaceable!

To give some examples; if you take the battery all day with texts, browsing, gaming, videos and anything else you can think of to do with your smartphone, then you will be plugging your phone in every night just like normal.

But, if you just text, social network and browse lightly you will be able to squeeze two, maybe even three days out of a single charge, something which was completely impossible with any other smartphone which we've ever tested here at TheTechFella. The phone is simply amazing at conserving battery when it's idle and not being taxed too heavily.

   Camera.
One thing most people have come to expect from their smartphone is to not have to lug around their point and shoot camera as well, because cameras on smartphones are so good nowadays and again the Galaxy S3 is an imaging champion.

The sensor on the back is only an 8MP unit but that doesn't explain how good it is. Pictures are crisp, clear and look great when you get them uploaded to your computer. The most impressive thing is the 'zero shutter lag' which has been banded around a lot recently. It's something which takes some getting used to; as soon as you hit the shoot button the picture is taken, if you blink you literally will miss it, it's really very impressive indeed.

The front camera is similarly as potent despite only being 1.9MPs it is capable of 720p video capture and is great for Skype calls and even quick boyfriend/girlfriend together pictures and similar  such activities.

   Conclusions.
This is by far and away the best smartphone we've ever had the privilege to test here at TheTechFella. After using the device for 3 weeks it'll be our daily driver for the foreseeable future and given that this phone is cheaper than the iPhone 4S on contract and on pay-as-you-go it's impossible to suggest any other phone at the moment. Although, this might all change with the next iPhone but if you're Android, if you're in the market now, then you have nothing else to think about!

Rating:  10/10!!! The device for all comers to challenge in their upcoming 2012 phones!

Staples confirms numerous new Kindle tablets incoming!

Staples President, president Demos Parneros, has today told Reuters that Amazon are preparing '5 or 6 new SKU's' of Kindle tablets. Which in normal words means that Amazon are preparing 5 or 6 new tablet variants.

Now this could mean 2 new tablets and then 16, 32 and 64GB version of each tablet, but we're really hoping for 7", 8.9" and 10.1" tablets. There's also the possibility that one SKU could be dedicated to a 3G/4G capable version of the tablets.

Interestingly, Parneros did explicitly say that a 10inch version is in the pipeline, something which will go head to head with Apple's iPad, but Amazon's offering is expected to have a much lower price point! We are also expecting a refreshed 7" Kindle Fire, something perfectly tailored to compete with Google's insanely popular, new Nexus 7.

This might be a cheeky ploy to take some of Google's momentum away while Amazon's tablets are finished or Amazon might be slightly annoyed with Staples for revealing their plans prematurely. Either way Amazon declined to comment on the stories today!

Keep it locked for all the latest news on Amazon's tablets!

Samsung splits from Qualcomm licensing deal to spite Apple.

About 18 years ago, Samsung and Qualcomm made a little gentlemen's agreement, promising not to use 3G patents to Samsung's advantage, new documents have confirmed. Samsung promised not to sue Qualcomm or any of its customers for using these patents. It's been confirmed that Samsung saw it fit to dissolve these agreement in April 2011, so that the IP could be used to combat Apple's aggressive law department.

Qualcomm was notified that the deal was ended as soon as Apple first filed against Samsung’s Galaxy Tab slate in the US, ZDNet claimed. ”There was an agreement between Samsung and Qualcomm. That agreement was not a licence agreement” Samsung’s counsel confirmed. “It contains a contractual provision that Samsung would not sue Qualcomm or customers of Qualcomm who apply [the 3G patents].”

According to Australian court documents Apple sought independent licensing with Samsung, but Sammy claims that its FRAND-term “commercial rate” for use of the technology was rejected, and that Apple failed to continue taking part in negotiations. “Apple has refused to enter negotiations for the UMTS patent”.

This is quite an interesting revelation and we'll see exactly what happened when we see some judgements coming in from the courts!

In other news:

  • The ratings agency, Moody's, has downgraded Nokia again, the company now stands at a 'junk' rating. But, the company is still confident things will turn around with the release of WP8.
  • The creators of the Android app 'Dead Trigger' have revealed their reasoning for making their quality game free recently. Apparently Android piracy is so rampant that the devs saw it as the best option to simply offer the game for free. From Coolsmartphone.com: Samsung set to announce new Galaxy S3 colours!

Screen Shot 2012-07-16 at 1.45.13 PMScreen Shot 2012-07-16 at 1.45.22 PMScreen Shot 2012-07-16 at 1.45.01 PM

So if you're one of them people out there who likes to stand out from the crowd you'll be most pleased with this hint from Samsung. The company is not content with just the Pebble Blue and Marble White variants of the Galaxy S3, so they've dropped a rather large hint that more colours will be on the way very soon!

PocketLint has been in contact with a Samsung Rep who confirmed to them that they have a few other colors in the pipelines. The Reps exact words were: “We will be announcing potential colour variants in due course.” Now this isn't an explicit confirmation, but it’s a pretty solid suggestion that there are new options on the way.

The mock ups above are just the handy work of PhoneArena but they're relatively good looking devices. For the moment though, all we can offer you is a preview of the Red version of the phone which is destined for AT&T, it's quite a looker!

But what do you think? Are they pointless? Or have you got your eye out for a certain colour already? Let us know in the comments below!

HTC's rumoured tablet might be the HTC Vertex HD.

The device above is the rumoured HTC Vertex and it's slated to replace the ageing HTC Flyer and Jetstream. The device above has had a few specs leaked by the usual benchmarking websites; there's Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor onboard. This device also appears to be working with a 10.1-inch display with HD resolution at WXGA 1280 x 800 pixels.

The cameras are currently appearing as a 2MP and 1MP back and front facing cameras. Although, we believe these are only temporary pieces of hardware and they'll likely be replaced before we hear anything official! There's some good connectivity options too; Bluetooth 4.0 is onboard, as is Beats Audio in two separate drivers.

This is something we're looking forward to seeing given HTC's short history of well built and appealing tablets!

JollaMobile plans to give Meego the chance it deserves!

Now many of you out there may have heard of Nokia and their much heralded N9. The N9 was the first, and only, smartphone to run Meego; a pleasant little OS which was widely described as a 'breath of fresh air' when it was shown off last year. Meego itself took the best of Nokia's Maemo and Intel's Moblin operating systems and merged them into one complete package specifically designed for ease of use and elegance.

Despite the N9 introducing beautiful industrial design and a great new OS, there was a problem and his name was Stephen Elop. You may know him as the man who was responsible for ending his company's work on Symbian, Meego and, the all but complete, Meltemi. Instead he jumped straight into the arms of his ex-employer, Microsoft and their little OS, Windows Phone 7.

As you can probably tell, I personally am a fan of diversity; Firefox OS, WebOS, Meego, Tizen, Bada, BB10/QNX and the like, are all great operating systems but they're either being created as we speak or have been all but archived after poor initial sales (yes HP we're looking at you).

But, in the face of adversity a team of ex-Nokia employees have created a small start up called Jolla and they plan to create their 'Own hardware and own OS based on ‪#MeeGo‬'. The software will be able to run on both ARM and X86 processors so, in theory, there's quite a range of products this company could come out with, but they've made it clear that their initial focus is smartphones.

The only problem is that the company has doesn't currently have any products to show off; they're working on something for release later this year, but it's been made clear on their Twitter page that they have investors and they are looking at possibilities such as Kickstarter to get the company off the ground.

This is a very interesting project and only time will tell if the company can build on the solid foundation laid by Nokia and Intel, but I have my fingers crossed for them!

Ohh, for the record the name isn't pronounced the way you expect; it's spelt Jolla but the company has said 'it should be said with a sharp 'z' in the beginning, like 'zholla' or 'tjolla'!

The latest Market shares are out! They're interesting reading!

The image above has a surprisingly large amount of interesting information in it!

Firstly, we can see that Google's Android has finally slowed it's sky-rocketing market share to more of a pedestrian improvement of 0.8%. This seems to suggest that most people who want an Android phone have one and obviously we would expect their share to stall slightly as a result. But, interestingly Symbian's share of the smartphone platter is down to 1% so there's not much more Android can steal from Nokia's old champion. Symbian's fall from grace has almost mirrored Android's growth so it seems that we're approaching some sort of stable equilibrium again

Interestingly, Apple now seems to have a fairly steady market share too, with a solid 30% of the smartphone market. But, it's hard to see how they can really push on from there given the cost of their handsets compared to the average price for smartphones; after all not everyone has a budget upwards of £600 or $700!

Microsoft also, seems to finally have stopped the rot too! It looks like the high profile launch of the Lumia 900 in particular, gave them a boost last quarter. But, given the announcement of Windows Phone 8, the companies has made it infinitely harder for them and their partners to shift the remainder of the Windows Phone 7 range, especially given that the OS is now essentially obsolete. It's also worth remembering that the figure includes those people rocking Windows Mobile too, which is a possibility for those who've held on to their eternal HTC HD2's and the like.

   In other news:

  • The Galaxy S3 is slated to join Verizon's line-up on July 10th, that's if Apple don't get their way!
  • Verizon has also announced that they will no longer subsidise tablets that land on their network, instead you will be paying full ticket price on top of that contract you want to take out!
  • It's come to light today that it costs you little over $1 a year to power your iPad compared to the $65 a year, it'll set you back to run your home refridgerator!
  • For those you you wanting to play Halo 4 on the regular, you'll have to have a lot of spare space on your Xbox. Microsoft has recommended at least 8GB of free space, so it could potentially take a lot more space than that, depending on how much you play!
  • RIM's CEO, Torsten Heins, has come out today and defiantly stated that his company is not in a 'death spiral', instead they're in a period of transition! Perhaps you might beg to differ?
  • In response to Google's launch of the Nexus 7, the iPad Mini has been rumoured for a Fall release again, but the Apple device is said to have a $100 premium over the Nexus, coming in at $300 instead of a Nexus 7's $199 price point.
  • Talking of tablets, today they've been slated to overtake Notebook sales by 2016!
  • Android's ICS operating system has finally landed on 10% of active devices... Just in time for the Jelly Bean launch. Perhaps the update pressure has gone to Google's head because their statue up at Mountain View melted today! You can see the melt in the image below!
  • Nokia has decided to take action and call out the Nexus 7 for violating their Wifi patents, we'll have to wait and see what comes of this!
  • And finally, RIM's Blackberry 10 roadmap appears to show the companies plan for 2013. The juicy details are all available below!

RIM planning to separate and sell off Blackberry?

There's been some interesting news today with regard to RIM and the future of their ailing Blackberry smartphones. The UK newspaper, The Mail on Sunday, has suggested that RIM is considering splitting up the BlackBerry business and selling off the handset manufacturing arm. The sources have claimed both Amazon and Facebook are potential suitors. Although, details of any possible deals are very near and far between, and the newspaper offered no sources in its report; RIM is also said to be weighing the possibility of using the messaging division to act as a standalone business, if that would boost performance.

This would be a very interesting progression if this did happen and the buck doesn't stop with Facebook and Amazon rumours. Microsoft have also announced their own brand tablet just last week, so it is possible they want their own hardware department too, although they have categorically denied any plans for making their own Windows Phone for the moment.

If there's any progression on this news then you'll be the first to know!

RIM's BB10 Plans!

It looks like RIM have stolen the news today, with the second bit of news being that the company plans two of devices.

The news has been sourced by N4BB and they claim RIM is readying the full-touch BlackBerry L-Series, complete with a 768 x 1280 display AND the BlackBerry N-Series, which will have a QWERTY keyboard and a 720 x 720 display. So good high resolutions on both counts here.

The L-Series, which you may  previously have heard of under its codename of “London”, is very similar to the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha device we saw earlier in the year.If the specs are to be believed the device measures 55mm wide and has a super good 356ppi screen.

The N-Series was codenamed “Nevada” and is said to be 52-53mm wide, with a square screen with a 330ppi resolution, which is 6 pixels per inch less than an iPhone. The first model in this particular series is rumoured to use an OLED panel, but future devices might opt for LCD instead, something which would bring down the price noticably.

If you can't wait for these new Blackberry's, then you could reportedly expect to get the L-Series as soon as September 2012. The N-Series, however, with that physical keyboard will have to wait until Q1 2013 at the earliest.
