HTC One Android 4.2.2 update set to bring new refinements to Sense 5.0!

Despite creating a stunning looking phone when they announced the HTC One, the Taiwanese company left a few people disappointed when they brought the device to market with only Android 4.1.2, whereas their biggest rival, Samsung's Galaxy S4, arrive with Android 4.2.2 on board.

HTC promised a swift update to the phone and it seems that the update is well under way  and today we have some news on what the update is set to bring to the table. Accoring to some screen grabs from AndroidRevolutionHD there will be Android 4.2.2, but Sense 5.0 will have a few changes made to it to give people what they've wanted. Perhaps the most popular addition will be the battery percentage indicator which is in the middle of the screen grabs below. Reports are say though that there will be a whole host of new quick settings, a new long-press-for-menu on the capacitive home button, something called Android Daydream, and some new changes and customisations to the app drawer.

At the moment we're not sure when these features will land on your lovely new smartphone, but with reports of Android 4.3 just around the corner, HTC had better get a wriggle on!

Is this Samsung's mammoth update list?

The guys over at SamMobile seem to have got yet another scoop for us today! They have seemingly got their hands on a 'pre-list', we assume this means a preliminary list of devices which will get the Android 4.2.2 update and which devices will go through to the next version of Android, whatever that might be called.

   The full 'pre-list' is below:

End at Android 4.2.2 update.
  • GT-I9080 – Galaxy Grand
  • GT-I9082 – Galaxy Grand DUOS
  • GT-I8160 – Galaxy Ace 2
  • GT-I8190 – Galaxy S III mini
  • GT-I8350 – Galaxy Beam
  • GT-I8730 – Galaxy Express
  • GT-I9070 – Galaxy S Advance
  • GT-I9100 – Galaxy S II
  • GT-I9105 – Galaxy S II Plus
  • GT-I9260 – Galaxy Premier
  • GT-N7000 – Galaxy Note
  • GT-S6310 – Galaxy Young
  • GT-S6312 – Galaxy Young DUOS
  • GT-S6810 – Galaxy Fame
  • GT-S7710 – Galaxy X Cover 2

To get Android 5.0.
  • GT-I9300 – Galaxy S III
  • GT-I9305 – Galaxy S III LTE
  • GT-I9500 – Galaxy S 4
  • GT-I9505 – Galaxy S 4 LTE
  • GT-N5100 – Galaxy Note 8.0
  • GT-N5105 – Galaxy Note 8.0 LTE
  • GT-N5110 – Galaxy Note 8.0 Wi-Fi
  • GT-N7100 – Galaxy Note II
  • GT-N7105 – Galaxy Note II LTE
  • GT-N8000 – Galaxy Note 10.1
  • GT-N8005 – Galaxy Note 10.1 LTE
  • GT-N8010 – Galaxy Note 10.1 Wi-Fi
Everything seems pretty fair to us, the fact that the Galaxy S2 will have been carried from Android 2.3.6 all the way to Android 4.2.2 is very impressive indeed and the fact that the low to mid-range devices such as the Galaxy Ace 2 are even getting updates is very commendable indeed. SamMobile did point out that more devices could be added to this list and they will update it as and when it's appropriate.

Naturally none of this has panned out yet, but are you happy with the support of your device in the upgrade stakes? Let us know in the comments below!

There's new code which would allow Google's proxy servers to help reduce the amount of data transferred to your phone for faster browsing, in much the same way Amazon Silk and Opera Turbo do. There's no details if or when this would be flicked on, but the fact that it is there means that it is in the pipeline!

Android 4.2.2 coming to a Nexus near you!

Over night AndroidPolice caught wind that some Reddit users were receiving an update to Android 4.2.2 on some of their Nexus devices. It started with a GSM Galaxy Nexus getting the update, which was swiftly followed by the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10!

As you can see the update promises "performance and stability" improvements, as well as some work on both the gesture typing and the multiple accounts features within the 47.6MB update. However, we're also hoping Google managed to implement the promised fixes to Bluetooth A2DP issues, but we're not sure yet and Google's 'WhatsNew' page didn't offer any more details. We haven't heard of any Nexus 4's getting the update yet, but Google might be working on a couple of other fixes for that device and if they can get the colour correction right with an extra week, then we'll be very pleased with that!

Have you got the update yet? If you have are the improvements noticeable? Let us know in the comments below! Oh and below are the screen grabs from the updated Galaxy Nexus!

In Other News: 06/02/2013.

  • One of the main criticisms of BB10 has been the cost of the high-end Z10 and Q10. Blackberry's, Rob Orr, aka managing director of UK and Ireland, has gone on record with PocketLint and said that  explained that cheaper phones are on the way. "Over the course of time we will bring BlackBerry 10 to all the segments of the market, but it will take time." For the moment BB7 phones will offer customers a cheaper option and BB10 phones were described as the consumer paying a premium for 'a different experience', which doesn't necessarily paint a good picture of BB7 devices.
  • SammyHub believes that Samsung are going to start churning out those 5" 1080p Super Amoled displays in the near future! They will supposedly start making them for the end of this month!
  • That rumours ties nicely with this one from SamMobile, which we're reluctant to post because we're not convinced by. The guys have posted that the Galaxy S4 will be launched on March the 15th. We're really not expecting it to land until April or May at the earliest, but we're more than happy to be proved wrong!
  • The IBTimes' 'inside sources' believe that Google employees are currently testing Android 4.2.2 on Nexus 4s, Nexus 7s and the Nexus 10s. The update is supposedly being worked on for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. The update is only expected to fix a few bugs though!
  • Apple has announced that iTunes has now sold over 25 billion, yes billion, songs! The milestone was reached with the download of Chase Buch's “Monkey Drums (Goksel Vancin Remix)" by iTunes user Phillip Lüpke. For being the lucky guy he will receive a giftcard with the value of €10,000 pre-loaded! Nice!
    Via TheVerge.
  • Google has coughed up $125million for Channel Intelligence Inc. They're a company who buy and builds Internet software and services firms. Everything seems to be logical here!
    Via Reuters.
  • Google have also confirmed that there will not be an Android booth at this years MWC!
    Via PhoneArena.
  • Motorola's Razr i is currently received an update to Android Jelly Bean in the UK! The OTA should be with you soon if it's not already!
    Via AndroidCentral.
  • HTC have reported that they had a poor January too! The guys from Taiwan can't seem to catch a break at the moment, as their sales slide 6.49% from January last year to around $530 million for this year!
    Via PhoneArena.
And finally, HTC's German arm has today teased something which will be 'alive soon'. We're not convinced HTC is planning on offering mechanical organs, but we think this might have something to do with their upcoming M7. Perhaps the device will have some sort of 'pulse' notification or some other tenuous link with a heart? Who knows all we know is that the event is on February 19th and we can't wait!
