Marvell announce a new mid-range processor with LTE: Coming to Tier-1 OEMs?

Marvell aren't the most popular brand for their mobile processors at the moment, but they're hoping that their new SoC will help change that, which is why they've announced the PXA1088 LTE today!

The SoC isn't at the bleeding edge of technology, instead it's more a competitor to Mediatek's processors, but this one has the added bonus of LTE connectivity! Aside from the LTE there's also four Cortex A7 cores, which will be alright, but they will be a lot slower than the Cortex A9 and A15 quad-core processors which we're seeing nowadays!

One interesting thing in the Marvell press release is that the company's co-founder, Weili Dai, said that:
"I believe the LTE high-performance capability is critical for mobile devices such as smartphones, tablets and ultrabooks... Now expanding the success of the quad-core PXA1088 3G worldmode mobile solution family, our new LTE device, the PXA1088 LTE, delivers best-in-class performance, shortens the time to market and enables seamless migration from 3G to 4G with worldwide LTE for our global Tier-1 OEMs and operators."

The most interesting bit of that being his comments about Tier-1 OEMs because it's hard to pin a name to his speculation there, but we suppose if the chipset is nice and cheap the Bluetooth 4.0, LTE and FM radio options will no doubt appeal to people, especially in emerging markets!
