ARM partner with LG: LG to become the 'lead partner' for Cortex A50 CPUs and next gen Mali GPUs!

ARM have today announced that LG will become the 'lead partner' in the move towards the new Cortex A50 series of processors. These are a new generation of processors which will put today's processors to shame. ARM said that this partnership will give LG access to the 'highest-performing CPU and GPU solutions to create market-leading technology.'

The new processors are so good for a number of reasons. The first is that they now have support for 64-bit architectures, as well as 32-bit and the second part is that LG will have access to the next generation of Mali GPUs. These are a key part in the new SoCs: LG's Senior Vice President, Bo-ik Sohn, says:
“The close interaction between the CPU and GPU becomes increasingly important as solutions transition between the 32-bit and 64-bit world... Being able to implement Full Profile GPU Compute in conjunction with ARM big.LITTLE processing configurations will be a key driver to the overall performance and capabilities of our devices.”
At this point we're not sure whether LG can go toe-to-toe with the big boys, but it might mean that LG have a sharper eye on the SoC business and the Inquirer speculates that they could possibly have a crack at creating servers based on the new architecture.
