Archos announce the latest devices in their Elements range: The 80 Xenon!

It was only a couple of days ago that Archos were announcing their beautiful ChefPad for those of you who love to cook, but today they're back with another tablet, this time it's a device which slots into their elements range!
The Archos 80 Xenon is an 8" tablet with a surprisingly large amount going for it. It's 8" display has a 1024x768p resolution and it's an IPS display which should offer good viewing angles. That display will be powered by Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and it'll be running on a quad-core Snapdragon S4 processor clocked at 1.2Ghz which is paired with an Andreno 203 GPU! On the memory front there's 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage which thankfully is microSD expandable and
there's support for cards up to 64GB in size on this device. There's two cameras here; the rear one is 2MP and the front one Archos didn't assign a resolution to, but they did say that it was a 'webcam' so we would assume that it's VGA!

One extra bonus which this tablet has is that there is both WiFi and 3G connectivity options on board, which means that you can plug in a SIM card and get your data on 3G assuming your carrier uses the 2100 MHz band and there's 2G connectivity on 850/950/1800 and 1900 which means you'll get 2G in basically every place you go!

The real highlight here though is that all of this can be yours for very reasonable prices. Depending on where you are this will set you back either €169,99, £159.99 or $199.99, all of which are great prices and it puts the device right into a sweet spot just below the £180 Asus ask for their FonePad which has a lesser processor, but slightly better screen!

For full details head over to Archos' site here!

Archos announce the Chefpad: Aimed at all those foodies out there!

Archos already have a pretty expansive range of Android tablets on the market. There's everything from the small 7 inchers right the way through to an 11.6" beast. They're all solid tablets and they all tend to run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on similar internal hardware and that's not a bad thing.

That trend has been continued today with the announcement of a tablet which is tailored to a very specific group of people and those people are chefs! The main changes to the device specifically for that market are the inclusion of a silicon case and a stand, which although it doesn't sound like anything major it's just a simple way of targeting certain people and it allows the casing to be removed and wiped down if there are any unwanted spillages.

The tablet itself is much like Archos' other offerings there's a 9.7" screen front and centre which offered up 1024 x 768 pixels. Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is being driven along by a dual-core Cortex A9 processor which is clocked at 1.6Ghz and there's quad-core Mali 400 graphics here too. On the storage front we've got 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage which is expandable with MicroSD cards up to 64GB in size. Other than that there's 2MP cameras on both the front and back and there's USB On The Go support as well as HDMI output through a Mini HDMI port! As you would expect there's the usual array of sensors and connections and the staples Bluetooth and WiFi are both there, a full list of them is available here.

We assume the main thing with this sort of device will be the battery life because there will be a lot of screen on time while people are cooking, but unfortunately we can't seem to find the size or the estimated length of time the battery is meant to last for, but if we do find it we'll be sure to let you know!

If you're interested then the device is set to go on sale in June for 169.99€, £149.99 or $209.99 depending on where you live! For full details and more pictures check out Archos' product page here! One thing to end on is that even if you're not a chef this is a really good little tablet with a case and stand for £150!

Archos announced their three smartphones: All dual-sim, all worth a look!

Yesterday we heard rumours about Archos planning on launching a new range of smartphones and what do you know today they're official! In the range there's three devices; the 50 Platinum, the 53 Platinum and the 35 Carbon.

As we expected each of these names refers to the screen size of each device and so lets look at each one in a little bit more detail!

The Archos 50 Platinum.

The screen in a 5" IPS panel with a resolution of 960 x 540p making this a qHD screen which is ok, if not amazing. Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean will keep everything ticking over on a Qualcomm 8225Q quad-core Cortex-A5 processor, which should perform well, but it won't be spectacular! This is paired with 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage which is expandable with cards up to 64GB in size! On the camera front there's an 8 mega-pixel rear and a 2 mega-pixel front arrangement, which is capable of 720p video recording Otherwise there's Bluetooth 3.0, 2G and 3G connectivity one for each sim card because this is a dual-sim phone, GPS and a 2000mAh battery should just about be enough to get you through the day if you don't tax this thing too hard! You can find full details about this device on Archos' site here!

The Archos 53 Platinum

The 53 Platinum is the real head of the line-up. There's a 5.3" IPS again with that 960 x 540p qHD resolution this time, but other than that all of the internals are the same, all the way down to !
here
the memory, Bluetooth and camera set ups! This is also a dual-sim device powered by Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, the only change aside from the screen size this time appears to be the considerably larger battery which comes in at 2800mAh and that should be much better at getting you through the day! You can find full details

The Archos 35 Carbon.

Last, but certainly not least is the baby of the line up and this will probably end up selling the best of all the phones. This little device has a 3.5" 320 x 480p HVGA display and is powered by a Qualcomm 7225A processor clocked at 1 Ghz. This time Android 4.0 ICS is in the driving seat, which is kept ticking along by 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage which is MicroSD expandable with 32GB cards. The cameras on this device are VGA on both sides, but on the plus side there's still Bluetooth 3 and GPS on board. The whole thing is powered by a 1300mAh battery which should be perfectly fine for this sort of device. Again this phone is dual-sim and you can find full details here!

Price.

Obviously with these sorts of phones price is everything and Archos have kindly laid them out for us!
ARCHOS 50 Platinum: 199.99€ / £ 179.99 / $ 219.99
ARCHOS 53 Platinum: 249.99€ / £ 199.99 / $ 249.99
ARCHOS 35 Carbon: 79.99€ / £ 79.99 / $ 99.99
We think you could do worse than picking one of these up, we would recommend having a scout around if you're after the Archos 35 Carbon though because there will be cheaper alternatives in the same sort of price bracket, although they won't all be dual-sim! If you want more information then the details of each device can be found here!

Archos rumoured to release four phones: We've heard about three of them before!

We've actually heard rumours about a set of phones from Archos before. We saw this leak just before MWC earlier in the year and we expect to see the phones at the show. Seeing as the phones didn't turn up there the devices slipped into the backs of our minds, until now! It seems that the guys over at Lilliputing have managed to get their hands on a screenshot which seemingly proves the existence of a budget Android handset from the French company which you can see pictured below!
As you can see the image doesn't give away too much information aside from the fact that the device will cost 82 euros to buy and that it has 4GB of internal storage.

However, shortly after this original image was spotted there was the following chart which seemingly shows off four new smartphones spotted by the guys at MiniMachines.

If we cross reference what we see in that chart with what we heard in the rumour a couple of months ago we see that things are surprisingly similar! Our post earlier in the year said that there would be:
"An Archos Carbon 35 [with] a 480 x 320p screen, single core processor and 512MB of RAM and a shockingly small 512MB of storage. Obviously this is a budget device and it has a rumoured price tag of 90 Euros."
That is remarkably close to the what today's rumours seem to suggest too!

The same thing can be said about the Archos Platinum 48, which we reported would arrive with:
"A 4.8 inch, 1280 x 800p screen rumoured to be paired with a 1.7 GHz Mediatek MT6589 quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 processor. The supposed 249 Euro price tag reflects the bump in quality of the components."
Now this one isn't quite as close, but the screen size and resolution seem to be close to the mark as does the quad-core Mediatek processor!

The final device which we have previously heard about was the Archos Titanium 52 and previous it was set to have a:
"800 x 480p screen, which we really hope[d] [was]n't true because that will not be very nice to look at! Other than that the rumour mill hasn't offered up too much other than a 1.2 GHz dual core processor."
Again both of those seem to agree with the device in the chart above.

The 'Titanium 4' is the only one which we haven't heard anything about before, but it definitely seems to have a place as a mid-range phone in this line-up.

Obviously this is all still rumour at this point, but now we've heard about these devices on multiple occasions, it's getting safer to assume that these will be on shelves at some point this calender year!

Archos announce the 13.3" FamilyPad 2!

Archos have been releasing an insane number of tablets onto the market lately. They've basically got every price point covered now and there's a fair few attractive little devices in there, but today it's time for a nice big tablet to be released.

Archos' new FamilyPad features another giant 13.3" 1280 x 800 pixel resolution screen, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, a dual-core A9 processor which is clocked at 1.6GHz, which works with a quad-core Mali 400 GPU. Other than that there's 8GB of internal storage which can be bumped up with a MicroSD card which can be as big as 64GB, there's 1GB of RAM and two 2MP cameras, one on  each side!

The rather handsome device is set to be available 'very soon' and will cost 299 Euros which will probably translate to between £250 and £275! For all the details check out Archos' website here!

Archos rumoured to be working on a set of phones! [Updated with pictures!]

So this rumour is a couple of days old, it first included details of the Archos 116 Platinum, which was officially release yesterday, so there's reason to believe that this is quite credible and the rumour runs something like this.

Archos is already well known for their tablets and they want to bring some of that success to mobile phones too. The plan appears to follow the 'elements' naming scheme of their tablet brethren, if the rumour is too be believed too.

The phones are rumoured to arrive in three different sizes; they are 3.5 inch, 4.8 inch, and 5.2 inches. The smallest will supposedly be called the Archos Carbon 35 and it's rumoured to feature a  480 x 320p screen, single core processor and 512MB of RAM and a shockingly small 512MB of storage. Obviously this is a budget device and it has a rumoured price tag of 90 Euros

Taking a little bit of a step up there's the Archos 48 Platinum. This is seemingly a much better device by today's standards, with a 4.8 inch, 1280 x 800p screen rumoured to be paired with a 1.7 GHz Mediatek MT6589 quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 processor. The supposed 249 Euro price tag reflects the bump in quality of the components.

Right at the top of the line there's rumoured to be the Archos 52 Titanium, which will supposedly have a 800 x 480p screen, which we really hope isn't true because that will not be very nice to look at! Other than that the rumour mill hasn't offered up too much other than a 1.2 GHz dual core processor.

If this is accurate we expect we'll be finding out a lot more at MWC in a few days!

Archos announce the Platinum series of tablets.

Archos have today announced their latest set of tablets in their Elements range. This time around the trio of tablets are the 'Platinum' range and they all promise 'super high resolution IPS screen[s] combined with the performance of a quad-core CPU'.

The whole line feature aluminium casing and they have 'the best high definition IPS displays', as well as quad-core processors and 8-core GPUs, 2GB of RAM, mini-HDMI ports, MicroSD expansion options and they will all arrive with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on board!

The trio covers most options that you would want; there are 8, 9.7 and 11.6" options, so there should be one to suit your needs in there! Interestingly though, there's a big mix of screen resolutions, despite all of them being IPS panels.

The ARCHOS 80 Platinum, the 8” option, has a resolution of 1024x768p and Archos is keen to hold this one up as a competitor to the Kindle Fire HD 8.9. They argued that 'it is almost twice as fast, has double the RAM and has a back camera for a fraction of the cost'. The ARCHOS 97 Platinum HD is where things start to get exciting in the screen department though. On board there's another Retina equalling 2048x1536p resolution IPS screen, just like we saw in its dual-core Titanium sister! Last but not least there's the ARCHOS 116 Platinum, it's rocking an 11.6" 1920x1080p resolution display which is the same as Microsoft's new Surface Pro!

All three of these tablets will be available soon-ish and the full price and availability timescales are embedded below as is the press release! For any more information check out the whole range on Archos' website here!

The ARCHOS 80 Platinum will be available in February for €199 / $199 / £179
The ARCHOS 97 Platinum HD will be available in February for €249 / $299 / £249
The ARCHOS 116 Platinum will be available in April for €349 / $349 / £299

CES 2013: Archos announce 4 new tablets in the Titanium range!

Archos already has a fair few tablets in their stables, but that's not deterring them from offering a couple more and why should it?!

Pictured above are the four new tablets in the Titanium range and these have quite a fair bit in common with each other. They each have capacity IPS displays, Dual-core 1.6GHz processors with quad-core graphics, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and they're all nicely wrapped in very nice aluminium cases!

We're not sure of exact details on screen resolutions for the tablets except for the 97 Titanium HD, which comes packing a retina equalling screen with a resolution of 2048 x 1536! It's also worth bearing in mind that the name of each of these tablets denotes the screen size; for example the 70 Titanium is 7" and the 101 is 10.1".

If you're wondering about the cost of these devices then it will look something like this:

70 Titanium: 119€, $119, £99.
80 Titanium: 169€, $169, £149.
101 Titanium: 199€, $199, £169.
97 Titanium HD: 249€, $249 and £199.

So there's are very reasonably priced tablets indeed! We'll have to wait until we either get the device in out hands or see the first reviews to ultimately decide if they're worth your hard earned money!

Archos announce the TV Connect: A novel way to get Android on the big screen!

A couple of weeks ago we got word that Archos had had a decent stab at a handheld, Android-powered games console, the Archos Gamepad. One thing about that device which makes it stand out is its uniqueness; there's nothing quite like the Gamepad available from anyone else. It's this thinking outside the box from Archos which meant their latest invention catch our attention when it landed in our inbox too!

Last week Archos announced the TV Connect. Essentially this is an Android-powered TV/ entertainment solution and it's quite intriguing. To quote Archos directly the device will offer you the ability to "control your TV just like a tablet - tap, swipe, zoom in, zoom out, select or type. With the TV connect users will be able to play games, stream videos, video chat in HD, email friends or surf the web all from their big screen TV", this literally is Android for the TV.

To get a solid Android experience you'll need a little bit of horsepower and thankfully the TV Connect can offer you that too! There's a 1.5Ghz 'Multi-core processor', although Archos hasn't specified how many cores for some reason, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage which is MicroSD expandable. To top the whole thing off the device is running Android 4.1 'Jelly Bean'. If you're interested in picking one up then it'll be available in February and it'll set you back the grand total of $129.99. You can find full details over at Archos' website here.

There's a small demo of how the controller actually works with the Android apps just below!

Archos announce the GamePad and the 80XS.

The Archos GamePad.

ARCHOS GamePad - Buy Now

   Today Archos have announced their brand new gaming-focus tablet, aptly named the GamePad. This is one good looking piece of kit and it has a good set of specs to power your games. There's;

  • Fully integrated game controller analogue sticks & 14 buttons.
  • Unique & patented ARCHOS Mapping tool - make any virtual control game work with physical controls.

  • 1.6Ghz Dual-core A9 processor and Mali 400 MP Quad-core Graphics Co-Processor.
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with full access to Google Play.
Is this a more compelling option than those attachable gamepads? We certainly think so! The GamePad is available direct from Archos for €150 or £130. If you're interested in purchasing one why not take a look at Archos' website here!

If you were wondering how Archos plans to make every game work flawlessly with their GamePad then check out their pretty simple mapping tool in the video below!

Via Archos Facebook.

The Archos 80XS.

A little while back we heard about the Archos 101XS, well Archos knows that 10" might be a bit too big for some people, so they've come up with a 8" brother for the tablet.

This device, just like the GamePad, is no slouch; there's a 1.6 GHz dual-core processor which drives that 8" 1024 x 768 pixel screen. You've got a few output options too, because this device seems to offer relatively good productivity options. There's mini-HDMI out to connect to an HDTV, Wireless uPnP media streaming, a Micro-USB for charging that you can also use as a into a full USB host port with a little adaptor, which annoyingly doesn't come in the box. Your other storage options are 8GBs internally with Micro-SD expandability up to 64 GB. All of this is crammed inside a metal frame which is a mere 8.9mm thick!

There's a few pretty cool accessories to go with this one too; there's a 'Coverboard' which acts as a removable kickstand and keyboard, as well as speaker dock and docking station options! Both of which you can find here.

There's no word on price yet, but we'll update the article if we hear more!
