O2 UK launch refresh tariffs: The phone contracts with freedom!

It seems that at least one UK carrier has decided to take a leaf out of T-Mobile USA's book, as O2 have announced a new set of 'Refresh' plans which split customers bills into two parts. The first part of the 24 month plans is the monthly cost of the smartphone and the second is the calls, texts, and data allowance.

That means you'll have the option to pay for example, £17 a month for your calls, texts and data and then the remainder of your monthly bill will be paying off the cost of your shiny new phone! The great thing here is that if you want to end your contract at any point the only thing O2 requires you to do is pay off the remainder of your phone part of the plan, which means no early termination fees!

For the calls, texts and data part of this plan you can choose £12, £17 or £22 a month contracts and each of them nets you varying allowances! For £12 a month you can get 600 minutes, unlimited texts and 750MB of data. £17 nets you unlimited minutes, unlimited texts and 1GB of data and if you pay £22 you keep the unlimited minutes and texts, but your data allowance doubles to 2GB. These tariffs are reasonable, if not exceptional in price!

You can pick up your choice of a Samsung Galaxy S3, S3 Mini, Note 2, Ativ S, Blackberry Bold 9900 or Z10, HTC 8X or One, Sony Xperia T or Z, iPhone 4, 4S or 5, Nokia 820 or the LG Nexus 4 on any of these contracts from next week Tuesday, the 16th of April. The Blackberry Q10 and Samsung Galaxy S4 will be options when these phones hit the market!

Let us know what you think of this idea? Is this something you'd like to see more of? We here at TTF definitely think so, but what do you guys think? The full press release is available here!
