22/10/2012: Samsung and Apple end LCD deal, LG India all but confirm the LG Nexus and more!

Samsung ends their LCD deal with Apple.

It's no secret that Samsung and Apple don't exactly see eye to eye any more, Samsung has previously been a key supplier for Apple. Unfortunately, Apple technologies won't be featuring Samsung made components much more.
The friendship was officially ended today when the South Korean giants announced that they will be ending their supply of LCD screens for Apple products. Samsung has said the reason for the decision is that the company makes insufficient margins from Apple’s supply pricing strategy. Which is not wholly unsurprising because Apple always strives to get the lowest possible price for all their components. Obviously with they guys over in Cupertino cutting back their reliance on Samsung in its LCD supply the deal isn't as profitable as it used to be for Samsung.

Samsung also has plans to minimize the effects of dropping the orders from Apple; they will instead be selling LCDs to Amazon for use in it's Kindle Fire range! The Kindle tablets are very popular at the moment so Sammy will still be churning out a fair number of screens.

From the other side of the coin Apple won't be too phased by the deal anyway because recently they have been sourcing their screen from LG and Sharp, albeit with a few production issues on the production ends with success rates.

It's a shame to see two tech giants forced apart like this over patent lawsuits but they'll both be more than fine without each other. It'll just be interesting to see where things go from here because Apple may have to rely on Samsung for some parts in the future because of the way Samsung leads the production market in so many fields!

LG India all but confirms the LG Nexus.

The LG Nexus is perhaps one of the worst kept secrets in tech history! We've seen rumours come and go about multiple Nexus phones and they're all but disproved now, but this is the constant and according to LG India this is what we'll be seeing a week today! (October 29th).

Amit Gujral, head, Mobile Product Planning, LG, made a few comments on the side at an Optimus Vu launch event. He said to IBNLive that, "Google will unveil the LG Nexus on October 29 and the phone will be available in the Indian markets by the end of November." It would seem likely that that time scale will be applied to the rest of the world too, especially if recent Nexus releases are anything to go by!

The LG employee also gave us a little glimps of the tech specs of the LG Nexus. His list included most of what we have heard before; a 4.7-inch screen, Android 4.2 OS, and  a 1.5 GHz quad-core processor. Aside from that we have to look back to the rumours for the rest of the specs which reportedly include; 2GB of RAM, a 1280x768 IPS display, an 8-megapixel camera, a non-removable battery, 8GB or 16GB of internal storage and no microSD card slot.

Only a week left to wait!!! There were also another load of rumours for the event which we are reluctant to publish, but in case you're interesting in them they include reported information about a Samsung Nexus 10, Nexus 7 3G and Android 4.2. You can find that info here!
