15/11/2012:iPhone 5 jailbreak getting nearer, Toshiba announces the AT300SE, HTC Deluxe leaks: it's the global Droid DNA and much more!

An iPhone 5 jailbreak is nearing completion!

With every new iPhone people decide they want 'full control' and jailbreaking is the best way to secure that. It therefore follows that every year around this time we hear grumblings of jailbreaks; jailbreaks that work, jailbreaks that don't, but either way some will eventually crack Apple's code.

This time it's prominent Chronic Dev hacker planetbeing who's announced that the day is nearing when there will be a working jailbreak in the wild. He said:
"The jailbreak itself is stable but we’re missing needed exploits. I can’t discuss what we’re missing.”
At the moment the situation centres around the need to find “the missing pieces rather than debugging... Typically the messiest part of the jailbreak process has been installing it in the first place," planetbeing said.

So rest assured that a jailbreak is on the way and naturally we'll keep you updated because we know how keen you all are to tinker with your devices!

Toshiba announces the AT300SE.

The Toshiba AT300 was one slick device; thin, metal and generally beautiful. Perhaps looks don't run in the family if it's cheaper sibling is anything to go by. Although, this is a tablet aimed more at the budget market, with a starting price of £300.

So what does that money buy you? Well first up there's an NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor most likely running at 1.3 GHz and 1 GB of RAM. The relatively good start continues with dual 3 MP/1.2 MP cameras, 16 GB of on-board storage which is expandable via microSD support and connections with Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth 3.0 as you would expect. The tablet isn't too clunky either; being 10.5 mm thick and weighing 625g, which makes it relatively close to the OG AT300 in size and weight!

The problem with buying something which is 'budget' is that there are compromises. Unfortunately, here it comes with the screen, which is a 10.1-inch panel which is reported rather  mediocre, with a resolution which is quite last year, 1280 x 800 pixels. Don't get us wrong it's not terrible but when you think for £10 more you can get the Nexus 10, with it's stunning 2560 x 1600 panel, the winner quickly becomes apparent.

Having said that we have got Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and this thing will undoubtedly appeal to some people. We just wish it didn't look so much like a HP Touchpad, that design just doesn't bode will.

  • SamMobile has today reported that Samsung has released an update to the Galaxy Beam! The update keeps the phone on Android 2.3 Gingerbread but they guys say that it 'makes the phone feel more stable, faster and battery performance is better.' They also added that 'Samsung will update the Galaxy Beam to a higher Android version in the next couple of months.'
  • As well as that the same guys managed to get a leaked version of the Android 4.1.2 update for Galaxy S3's! You can get the full details here! But, remember this is not finished software although SamMobile have said that they have tested it fully themselves and they think it works well!

  • Samsung and Apple haven't been friends for a while now, but today it's emerged that Samsung's annual strategy meeting will mainly centre around the patent litigation with Apple instead of 'strategy'. This news comes after Samsung Mobile's CEO, Shin Jong-kyun, said that the company will no longer negotiate patent issues with Apple. If we hear any more we'll let you know! Via PhoneArena.
  • Vodafone UK have launched a brand new priceplan called 'Red Hot'. Basically this plans revolves around the idea of leasing you a phone, so you can 'upgrade' every 12 months. So you won't ever own the phone and yes there is penalties for damaging or replacing the phone, but the lure of a new phone every year may tempt you! If it does you can currently scoop the Samsung Galaxy S III for £47 per month. That deal will net you unlimited calls and texts and 2GB of data.  The iPhone 5 will cost from £59 per month and the Note 2 from £52, just in case either of those would be your preference!
