iOS 7 commentary courtesy of hilarious spoof videos!

   During the last few days we've had the chance to have our first look at the new iOS 7 design language which is going to be rolling out to all iOS devices later in the year. As you can see from the picture to the right, things are going to be louder, slightly more cartoon-y and notably different to how they look now.

   Obviously opinion will be split on this redesign, but people never like change to begin with, but in the long-term it's for the best because iOS has to all intents and purposes looked the same since it was first introduced six years ago!

   Usually we're not ones for parodies, but in this instance we're going to make an exception because the video embedded below is simply hilarious and perhaps it's something to do with the way that the video actually manages to reflect a degree of truth! Big redesigns tipped in the Mail and Calender apps for iOS. Wider redesign will wait according to Bloomberg!

   It was just yesterday that we brought you news that Apple were supposedly redesigning iOS to make things look a bit flatter. Well it seems that Bloomberg has chimed in now with their opinion on what will be changing in the next version of iOS and as well as the update to the interface the Mail and Calender apps are reported to be in line for overhauls.

   According to Bloomberg's take on the matter the next version of iOS is at risk of being delayed because of the wide "software overhaul." As we've said there's meant to be a new flatter aesthetic, but the biggest change is set to take place in the Mail and Calender apps. In these two areas Bloomberg is reporting that Apple is "exploring more dramatic changes", which may mean that an update with the refreshes in will land later than the update for the rest of the system. 

   The man behind all of this is Apple's Jony, who is the company's new software chief having taken over from Scott Forstall. He is probably seeking to address the remarks from analysts like Benedict Evans, who Bloomberg quote as saying that, “There is a tidying up that needs to be done and a rethinking.” Part of this rethinking could be the way in which gestures are incorporated into the system, something which Jony Ive has supposedly been exploring lately because of Ive's interest in "altering how people control their computers."

   We'll leave you with Bloomberg's comments that the changes are unlikely to be drastic in iOS 7, we would think that Ive's influence will only be felt this time next year after he really gets to grips with his new role! Rumours suggest iOS 7 is set to get a redesign and as part of that will all be made flatter!

This is supposedly Apple's next iPhone design.

   The rumour mill for the next version of Apple's iOS is starting up with the first real rumours coming from sources speaking with 9to5Mac!

   According to the reports iOS 7 is set to be "very, very flat,” and the interface is shaping up to lose, "all signs of gloss, shine, and skeuomorphism seen across current and past versions of iOS." The multitude of 'sources' seemingly reiterate the 'flatness' of the new operating system with one apparently suggesting how iOS will be similar to the flatness of Microsoft's Metro UI used in Windows Phone and Windows 8!

   The problem here for Apple is that their OS hasn't had a major overhaul since it was released way back with the original iPhone. That was six phones ago and assuming you've owned an iPhone for that long then the look will probably be getting a bit stale. Microsoft and Google have radically reinvented their interfaces lately with Windows Phone 7 ushering in the Metro design, while Honeycomb and subsequent versions have brought the Holo theme to Android. 

   The one thing we can be sure of, no matter what this update looks like, is that Apple will strive to make it as easy to use and as intuitive as possible! That was why they borrowed Android's notification centre and that's why aesthetically things may look different, but under the surface it'll probably all act exactly the same!
